Homework Policy

  1. Homework design :
  • In order to strengthen and consolidate students' learning, our school assigns a reasonable amount of homework after class. Teachers design effective homework to assist students in building knowledge, deepening understanding, connecting concepts, and providing opportunities for them to apply the skills they have learned, thereby fostering students' essential competencies.
  • The main types of homework at our school include, lab reports, research projects, and book reports.
➢ lesson preparation and guided learning plans
    ➢ post-class reflections and summaries
➢ lab reports and research projects and book reports
    ➢ consolidation exercises and worksheets

  • The average study time for junior high school students is about 3 hours per day, while for high school students, it ranges from 4 to 5 hours. The actual time spent on homework varies depending on students' abilities and the difficulty of the assignments.

  1. Awards for punctual submission of assignments
  • To encourage students to foster a good habit to hand in assignments on time, the following rewards are provided:
➢ Students who submit all assignments on time in the school year with good performance in other areas will be  awarded The Certificate of Dedication.
➢ A monthly award will be given to S1 to S3 students who hand in all assignments on time.

  1. Penalty for students who fail to hand in assignments on time
➢ To foster students a habit to hand in assignments on time and minimize their chance to copy from others, all students must hand in their homework before the commencement of the first period. Late submissions will be considered as non-submission of homework and will be recorded.
➢ A minor demerit will be given to students who fail to submit assignments for 15-29 times, and 2 minor demerits will be given for 30-49 times and so on.
➢ S1- S3 students who fail to submit their assignments 10 times or more each month ought to attend the detention class for the whole week to complete the assignments. The detention class time slots are as follows:

➢ A message will be sent via the phone to parents if students are required to attend the detention class.
➢ For those students who have demerit records because of unsatisfactory homework submission record may apply for participation in the “Programme for Good Habits of Homework Submission”. In order to encourage students to make improvement, the demerit records will be cleared if the participants can fulfil the requirements within a specific period.

Assessments Policy

  1. Purpose

    1. To help students understand their strengths and weaknesses in learning, and thereby improve their learning outcomes.
    2. To enable teachers to diagnose students' strengths and weaknesses in learning, formulate appropriate teaching directions, and enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
    3. To review and revise relevant learning objectives, expectations for students, curriculum design and content, teaching strategies, and activities, in order to inform parents about their children's progress and strengths and weaknesses in learning.

  2. Assessment Mode
    1. To meet the needs of different learning abilities, all subjects should assess students using a diverse evaluation model, in addition to written assessments. Continuous assessments should include at least 10% for learning attitude, such as homework performance, previews, guided learning plans, and classroom performance.

  1. Basic Policy and Arrangements
    1. In each semester, all subjects should conduct one "formative assessment" and one "summative assessment."
    2. Subjects such as Mandarin, music, visual arts, and physical education will conduct one "summative assessment" each semester.
    3. Evaluation areas for each subject should include three parts: "knowledge, skills, and attitudes."
    4. Method of Calculating Student Grades

    5. Teachers will assign an appropriate amount of homework to ensure students have sufficient review time.
    6. Examination Regulations:
      1. st have an attendance rate of at least 80% of class days or total class hours in order to be assessed and receive a results certificate.
      2. Students who arrive late during the examination will not be given extra time to complete their examination.
      3. Students are not allowed to leave the examination room before the end of each subject's examination.
      4. If a student misses an examination due to illness or the death of an immediate family member, they must notify the school office as soon as possible and submit a leave of absence note signed by a parent and a doctor's certificate to the homeroom teacher on their first day back at school. Missed subjects will not be graded.
      5. If a student misses an examination for reasons other than those mentioned in the fourth point, the exam will be scored as zero.
      6. Violations during the examination, such as talking from the time of seating until the collection of papers, continuing to write after the announcement to stop, or a mobile phone making noise, will generally result in a deduction of 5% from the score of that exam paper, and the incident will be referred to the Discipline and Character Development Team for follow-up.
      7. Cheating during exams will result in a score of zero for that paper and additional disciplinary action.
      8. Severe Weather:
        •    During the exam period, if the Education Bureau announces a school closure due to severe weather, the exam scheduled for that day will be canceled and rescheduled for a later date.
        •    In the case of continuous heavy rain and thunderstorms, if the Education Bureau has not announced a school closure, but parents believe that the weather, road, and traffic conditions in their area are extremely poor, they may decide not to let their children attend school for the exam. However, parents must notify the school office as early as possible and provide written proof to the school. The school will make appropriate arrangements based on the actual situation.

  2. Grading Assessment
    1. Passing Scores for Subjects:
      1. Forms 1 to 4: 50% of the full score
      2. Forms 5 to 6: 40% of the full score
    2. Distribution of Uniform Test Results:

    3. Distribution of Report Cards:
      1. All students must attend all classes and activities on time to achieve the best learning outcomes. An attendance rate of at least 80% is required to qualify for examinations and to receive a report card.
      2. Forms 1 to 5:
o    Annual performance are assessed over two semesters, with report cards issued once each semester, listing regular scores and exam scores, each weighted equally. The overall yearly score for each subject is the average of the two semesters.
      3. Form 6:
o    Report cards are issued once each semester, with the first semester listing regular scores and the second semester listing exam scores. The overall yearly score for each subject is the average of the two semesters.

Students who have been in the same grade for two consecutive years without upgrading should consider alternative pathways.

  1. Follow-Up
    1. Each semester, each subject must follow up on test performance to revise teaching strategies. The Academic Affairs Committee holds mid-term and end-of-term review meetings to evaluate teaching and learning performance and will establish action plans as needed to improve academic performance.

Promotion Criteria

The establishment of the promotion and retention system is designed to assist students in gaining the best learning opportunities. The school allocates limited retention places to the most suitable students to help them enhance their foundational skills in various subjects.

In addition to convening mid-term review meetings on students' overall performance, at the end of the academic year, the school will hold promotion and retention meetings for each grade, attended by the principal, vice-principal, grade-level coordinators, and subject teachers, to discuss students' promotion arrangements.

Students must meet the following criteria to be promoted, including achieving passing levels in average scores across all subjects, attendance rates, and conduct scores. While the school emphasizes academic performance, it also values character development. Therefore, the promotion standards are determined based on students' academic achievements and conduct ratings. The promotion standards for each grade level are listed as follows:

Level

Promotion Criteria

S1-3

1.  A pass in at least 2 core subjects among Chinese Language, English Language, and Mathematics; and

2. A pass in the overall average score; and 3. Compliance with conduct requirements

The students will only be promoted if their academic results and conduct fulfil the requirements of the school.  For those who failed must attend a re-test and will only be promoted on trial basis if they pass the re-test.
